Summary:The polarization dependence has been examined for EXAFS and XANES x-ray absorption spectra for Y-Ba-Cu-O oriented films. Features at the K absorption edge have been analyzed in terms of 1s - 4p(pisigma) transitions and shakedown processes. Comparison with Bianconi's calculations shows agreement in the orientation behavior of the first feature beyond the absorption edge.
