Description
Summary:The effects of such operative parameters as the geometry and position of the metal delivery tube, atomizing gas pressure, and the type of atomizing gas on the pressure characteristics at the tip of the metal delivery tube of an annular slit atomizer are experimentally investigated. Negative and positive pressure effects are detected and these effects vary according to the forementioned parameters. The maximum negative and positive pressure values found reach up to 80 kPa and 110 kPa, respectively. A correlation relating the metal mass flow ratio to the metallostatic pressure head and the difference of pressure at the tip of the delivery tube from the ambient pressure is formulated. Thus, an alternative mechanism for the formation of pressurization and aspiration, as well as the maximum positive pressure condition required for a spray deposition process, is proposed for the first time. Equivalent Al-alloy pressure data are cited.
