Modification of poly (maleic anhydride-co-styrene) with hydroxyl containing compounds
Soluble and cross-linked poly(maleic anhydride-co-styrene) copolymers were reacted with hydroxyl containing compounds such as salicylic acid, 2-phenyl ethanol, eugenol and paracetamole in acetone or dioxane solution at 50-80°C. The hydrolytic and controlled release behavior of the copolymers contain...

Summary: | Soluble and cross-linked poly(maleic anhydride-co-styrene) copolymers were reacted with hydroxyl containing compounds such as salicylic acid, 2-phenyl ethanol, eugenol and paracetamole in acetone or dioxane solution at 50-80°C. The hydrolytic and controlled release behavior of the copolymers containing these compounds in water was studied. The extent of hydrolysis was found to be affected by the type of polymer support as well as time, temperature and the type of supported compound. |
