Description
Summary:The religious and economic importance of Karbala city motivated comparison research to examine the traffic performance of the urban city roads network during the Covid-19 and after period, therefore it was necessary to comprehend the urban city roads network. The research region consists of four major urban streets separated into many segments, with the average travel time for all segments serving as performance indicators. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of the Corona pandemic on the performance of traffic in urban streets of Karbala city and investigate the traffic performance after the pandemic. The roads were evaluated after being classified according to the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) 2000, 2010 based on the observed Free-Flow Speed (FFS). The level of service (LOS) for each segment is then determined based on the specified average travel speed. The findings demonstrate that during the Corona epidemic, most nations implemented obligatory quarantine at home and restricted or curtailed people and traffic movement on several highways, resulting in less travel time during Covid-19 than after Covid-19. However, the authors discovered that the average travel time during Covid-19 increased only in Al-Abbas Street (Sections 1, 2 and 5) and Fatima Al-Zahra Street (Sections 3, 4 and 5). The average travel speed was found to be lower on several road segments during the Covid-19 period, including Al-Abbas Street (Segments 1, 2, 3, and 5), and Fatima Al-Zahra Street (Sections 1, and 5). In Al-Abbas Street (Segment 6), Fatima Al-Zahraa Street (Segments 2 and 4), Al-Iskan Street (Segment 2), and Ramadan Street (Segment 1), the level of service (LOS) improved compared to the post-Covid-19 period.
