Description
Summary:The synthesis of mesoporous silica with methyl ester ricinoleic castor oil (Ricinus communis) as a template (MS-MER), 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APMS) as a structural guiding agent, and tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) as a silica source for synthesis. Characterization Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) shows that OH, Si-OH, and Si-O-Si groups formed. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) characterization showed 2θ around 24o. Characterization Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) shows that adding methyl ester ricinoleate castor oil as a template affects the morphology of the mesoporous silica formed. The Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) characterization to determine the adsorbed Cd showed that mesoporous silica was suitable for Cd metal absorption. This adsorption indicates that almost all Cd ions that absorbed by MS-MER. The percentage of MS-MER on Cd ions is around 99%. The maximum adsorption capacity (qm) of MS-MER was 1000 mg/g.
