Description
Summary:The rapid growth of the laundry business in Palembang is a matter of pros and cons in the community. In addition to helping the community facilitate household chores, the laundry business can also be a job. However, behind the benefits, the wastewater generated by the laundry business will affect the environment if it is not appropriately managed. Laundry wastewater containing detergents, clothes deodorizers, and fabric softeners results in a decrease in the quality of the surrounding water. In this research, the aim is to reduce pollution by using a simple tool. Repeated filtration systems using main components silica sand, coral, and activated carbon are considered effective in reducing pollution. The level of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Turbidity are parameters in this study. The test results show a decrease in COD from 964 MgL-1 to 14 MgL−1 and turbidity by 302 NTU to 2.29 NTU; this is enough to prove that the repeated filtration system is very effective in reducing water pollution caused by laundry wastewater.
