can be used for the synthesis of short-spacer functional derivatives of

-carborane, whereas the 1,4-dioxane derivatives of

-decaborate and
closo
-dodecaborate anions, being stronger electron donors, are more stable and do not react with dimethylsulfide and triphenylphosphine.
