Description
Summary:Programming opportunities targeted for older people living with HIV are limited. We conducted four focus groups with 32 participants, all of whom were age 50 or older and HIV positive. These data were used to inform program development by determining the services in which the participants were actively involved, along with the services they wanted to receive. The four focus groups consisted of: (a) a gay/bisexual men’s group, (b) a heterosexual men’s group, (c) a women’s group, (d) and a Spanish-speaking group. Using inductive thematic qualitative analyses, four themes emerged pertaining to program development: (a) types of currently utilized HIV service organizations; (b) aspiration to help others gain knowledge about HIV through programs and organizations; (c) participants’ preferred programming, courses, groups, or activities; and (d) dissatisfaction with HIV programming and services. Results highlight the need for HIV programs and organizations to address social engagement and isolation among older people living with HIV.
