Summary: | A decision by U.S. lawmakers to send the latest version of the long-awaited financial regulatory reform bill to a conference committee and ultimately a vote by the Senate and House of Representatives is getting cautiously optimistic reviews from market participants. Doug Engmann, of Engmann Options, said he sees a great number of opportunities for firms in the wake of changes that the bill would require. He noted that the provision that would restrict prop trading by banks would be a huge opportunity for prop trading firms and the clearing firms that support them. But not everyone's outlook was rosy. Another financial sector analyst said she expected bank stocks to fall after more was known about the changes because of declines experienced in the last few months. |
