Summary:Some of the educational sessions at the 1993 annual meeting of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) are profiled. The ASIS Standing Committee on Educational Institutions' session, "Security Education and Curriculum Development Issues," featured Bob Fisher and John Chuvala, III, providing attendees with a history of the program development and the results of an earlier committee survey. Hate crimes was the topic of a session sponsored by the ASIS Standing Committee on Health Care Services. Bonnie M. Michelman of Massachusetts General Hospital explained that people commit hate crimes for 3 basic reasons: 1. resentment, 2. thrill-seeking, 3. and perceived-threat reduction. George Ronne, Jr., of M&M Protection Consultants spoke of the state of affairs in computer security. Vicki LaBarre of the CIA explained mandated inspections and the impact on private industry of the weapons treaties currently adhered to by the US.
