Summary:MIT has signed a $125 million, five-year contract with NECX to buy NECX's PC products via of the the company's online purchasing services. NECX is establishing an online computer store that will allow school faculty and students to order computers and other products with their own PCs or via kiosks at MIT's campus store. MIT will utilize NECX's Enterprise Purchasing Network for internal purposes. The network is a Web ordering system that allows school departments to purchase equipment online. NECX sells software and hardware from a wide variety of companies, including Sun Microsystems, Silicon Graphics, Apple, HP, IBM, Microsoft and Dell Computer. The Enterprise Purchasing Network will allow MIT to eliminate paper-based transactions and paper orders.
