Description
Summary:Sun Microsystems Inc introduces its SBus PrestoServe multifunction board for its SPARCserver 2 file servers. SBUS PrestoServe comprises a memory board with 1Mbyte of nonvolatile battery-backed memory in addition to server software that accelerates processing of Network File System (NFS) transactions. The unit improves server responsiveness on SPARCserver 2s under heavy load and allows for more client workstation support. The PrestoServe's memory works as cache to reduce delays caused by too many client workstations attempting to write data to the file server's disk. The server treats PrestoServer as the server's disc and processor and off-loads NFS transactions to the cache memory to be loaded onto the disk later on. SBus PrestoServe costs $2,995.
