| Summary: | [Mark Thomas]'s connections to the skinheads and to the "Identity" movement have grown out of his affiliation with the Aryan Nations, the Idaho-based neo-Nazi organization which ranked as one of the most prominent and violence-prone white supremacist groups of the 1980s. Schooled by Aryan Nations founder Richard Butler in the "Identity" credo -- which preaches that Northern European whites are the chosen people of scriptural prophecy, that Jews are the "synagogue of Satan," that people of color are inferior "mud races" and that homosexuals should be executed -- Thomas currently serves as Pennsylvania representative of the Aryan Nations. Thomas was also active until 1991 in the Pennsylvania unit of the now-defunct Invisible Empire of the Ku Klux Klan. As a Klan "Imperial Chaplain," Thomas offered paradoxical support for a group that is neither white nor Christian -- the Nation of Islam. Explaining why "I respect and admire Rev. [Louis] Farrakhan," in the May/June 1990 issue of The Klansman, Thomas wrote that unlike "Jew-controlled puppets such as Martin Luther King...[Farrakhan] is well aware of the Jewish menace." In addition to his organizing work for Aryan Nations and the Posse Comitatus, Thomas produces a newsletter, The Watchman, which he bills as "The Voice of the Christian Posse Comitatus in Pennsylvania." Writing in the publication's September 1994 edition, Thomas stated, "The question I put before you today is simple and brutal. Will you give your life to break the jewish [sic] yoke that is upon our race? If we were willing to give our children as much blood as we shed for the jews in the last century we would be free in a year, and there wouldn't be a telephone pole in Washington, DC, without a rope and a politician hanging on it." |
