Description
Summary:Among the gratifications of this joint program has been the reciprocity of learning. The personnel in Child Psychiatry have learned to be more realistic in their teaching, to demonstrate more and to theorize less. All of us have acquired increased respect for each of the professions in this multidisciplinary cooperative endeavor for the improved care of children. The attitude of the pediatricians after they have left their internships and residencies and entered private practice is interesting. Four of them have assumed leadership in community endeavors to establish community mental health clinics. Many of the more sound referrals to Child Psychiatry come from pediatricians who have participated in this program. Authors have presented one approach to the development of a related program of pediatrics and child psychiatry. They realize that it is not the only approach nor necessarily the one that is most effective. The phase of development in the particular pediatric setting, and many other circumstances, should be taken into consideration when deciding what approach to use.
