Summary:In rolling steel of various heats at metallurgical plants, it is necessary to determine the last pieces of each heat that are rolled in the production line. Several problems become evident from analysis of the present system of notifying operating personnel of the passage of the last pieces by intercom. The Kommunarsk Metallurgical Plant has collaborated with the Kommunarsk Mining-Metallurgical Institute to develop and introduce a system to automatically track the final rolled product along the line of the 600 mill. The system eliminates the problems referred to above. The operation of the system is based on the principle of remembering the serial number of the last piece at the beginning of the production line and comparing it with the serial numbers of the pieces at the final tracking point.
