Summary:Abstract Bioabsorbable material screws are widely used in various surgical specialties. One popular application is their use as interference screws in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery. Despite their routine use, a major concern with bioabsorbable materials in surgery has been the incidence of adverse events. Various case reports, series reports and studies in the past years have reported complications specific to the use of bioabsorbable interference screws intra operatively and at different time periods post operatively. The aim of this literature review is to summarize the clinical studies where bioabsorbable screws have been used in ACL reconstruction surgery and in particular to highlight any specific complications and adverse effects related to the use of these materials.
