Summary:ON the 31st October, 1900, the declaration of the poll in the counties of Orkney and Shetland brought to a close the General Election which, to all appearance, has given to the Unionist Party a fresh lease of power for five years. The return of Mr. Cathcart Wason raised the total Government majority in the new Parliament to 134, and placed the Unionist members for Scotland in a majority of thirty-eight to thirty-four.
