Description
Summary:Have Catholic parishes become obsolete? They remain the church's basic administrative units, despite important current reorganization efforts. Indeed, the impact of modernity, with the shift from rural to urban areas & promotion of the individual, has led to radical restructuring processes. Following social relationship evolution, management system has moved from an enclosure model to a pole model; introduction of democratic procedures has challenged authority structures; & management of pluralism & local strategies of accommodation have taken on new dimensions. These changes fuel numerous debates. On the one hand, reality requires some form of adaptation but, on the other hand, various competing arguments either reject or justify this evolution. Parishes are places where the most diverse experimentations take place, but they are also places of theological & pastoral confrontations regarding the location of religion in modernity.
