Description
Summary:An analysis of one of the broadest social movements in recent Latin American history, the "cost of living movement," which, at its height in 1978, mobilized over a million people in Sao Paulo against economic & social policies of the Brazilian military government. An overview of the movement's history examines its organization, modus operandi, social basis, & content. Emphasis is placed on its character as an omnibus movement, covering an amalgam of Wc & Mc production & consumption interests, & replacing certain trade union & political party activities, under the guise of a nonpartisan social demand backed not only by the Catholic church, but by a strong F constituency. Modified AA.
