Bifurcate Merging Terminology and Step-Bifurcate Collateral Terminology: A Cross-Cultural Study
Two concepts in which the levirate and sororate are expressed in kinship nomenclature are presented. A type of kinship nomenclature is characterized by the identification of the paternal uncle with the stepfather and the maternal aunt with the stepmother.
