Description
Summary:This is an analysis of the rise to prominence of eight female leaders from a Maya community, using as an innovating turn habitus theory & terminology drawn from actor-network theory, in order to problematize female leadership construction. While the discrepancy between practices & habitus is forcibly revealed, the authors in their turn, by analyzing the cases of these women potters, try & answer questions such as who provides structural holes that allow them to get in touch with innovating ideas, since their success is not consistent with a pervading lack of schools, & artistic or technical training. These female leaders have become mediators between communiSHtarian contradictions, & regional & national institutions. At the same time, both male & female government officials have also acted as translators fostering procSHesses of female mobilization in this district. 43 References.
