Summary: | How have Swiss employers been affected by the massive reduction in the influx of foreign workers? Almost two-thirds of the employers responding to a questionnaire on the subject report that they have had to take special measures to adjust to the resulting labour shortage, although their investment behavior appears to be conditioned less by the availability of labour than by the state of the product market. When the economy picks up and unskilled labour is again in short supply, most employers will place their trust in rationalisation and the transfer of operations abroad. Other findings concern the present and planned location of such investment, training policy, and the use of capital- or labour-intensive production methods |
