Summary:Investigated the effects of parental involvement on the motor development of 0-2 yr old Down syndrome infants enrolled in early intervention programmes. 24 infants with standard trisomy 21 Down syndrome were included. Motor development was evaluated with the Postural Stability and Motricity Section of the Brunet-Lezine Infant Developmental Scale. Results indicate that active parental involvement had a clear positive effect; the effects of this depended on the child's initial degree of deficit. Infants with relatively minor initial deficit were affected particularly severely by poor parental involvement. (Original abstract - amended)
