Summary:Examines the "Notenarchiv" (historical music collection) of the Berlin Sing-Akademie, which although believed to be lost was recovered in 1999 on the eve of the 250th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach's death. Notes that the collection embodies some of the materials that were evacuated from German cities and sheltered in remote rural areas at the end of the Second World War. States that the collection offers a considerable expanse of repertory and exciting implications for music scholarship and performance. Lists the items included in the collection. Includes photographs, footnotes, and an appendix (August 5, 1999, Harvard University press release detailing the resurfacing of C. P. E. Bach's musical estate in Ukraine).
