Summary: | This research presents data from a follow-up study of M.L.S. graduates from the University of Pittsburgh program. Almost a third of these M.L.S. graduates were not working in libraries at the time of the survey. In the analysis of demographics, career patterns and work histories, and attitudinal issues toward both work and gender roles, a picture emerges of the individuals who left librarianship for other fields, of those who chose to remain out of the work force entirely, and of those who took the traditional path. This study on practicing library professionals, as compared with their peers who chose not to practice librarianship, offers insights for both the library educator and the employer who need to know more about the issue of who leaves and who stays. |
