Summary: | The whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonators in a form of cone demonstrate that a quality factor Q in microwave range decreases monotonously with increase of angle α between a cone axis and generatrix. Both a form of the resonator made of Teflon and coupling between the resonator and input/output dielectric waveguides are analogous to them in the optic microcavity, where it was supposed that isolating mode from the disk perimeter resulted in Q increase. However the effect of increase of Q with α is not observed in microwave range. The cone resonators excited on WGM promise to become useful for microwave and millimeter‐wave characterization of high‐Tc superconducting films. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
