Description
Summary:Diffuse neutron scattering with polarization analysis has been used to probe the spin correlations in the paramagnetic state of (La0.8Er0.2)Al2, a crystalline alloy which displays many of the characteristics generally associated with amorphous random anisotropy magnets. Whilst the Er spin correlations persist to temperatures more than an order of magnitude higher than the spin freezing temperature (), these weakly ferromagnetic correlations are found to extend only over first and second near-neighbour shells.
