Description
Summary:[...]we decided to search for artwork in and outside of this general type as we scoured exhibitions at many galleries and two museum exhibitions, attended presentations and performances, and visited "Schmuck 2023"-the nucleus event of International Crafts and Trade Fair-held in a large exposition hall in Munich's Convention Center complex. In order to make sense of this plethora of expositions and collaborations between independent craft artists, galleries, art schools, artists, and craft and trade associations, we turned to the all-important overview brochure, Schmuck in Munich Program, which chronicled five days of programming that included more than 29 exhibitions across the city. The International Crafts and Trade Fair: More than Schmuck Four other craft- and jewelry-related exhibitions were also on view as part of the Fair: "Modern Classic"- a special exhibition which highlights one master jewelry artist each year; "Exempla"-which focuses on one area of craft, or a craft-related topic, that includes handmade craftof all types (this year's focus was on boat building); "Talente: Masters of the Future"-a juried all-media, international competition and exhibition of work by craftartists and designers up to the age of 30; and, "Frame"-which includes a selection of invited, leading jewelry galleries from around the world. (On March 10 Kruger opened his studio to students from the University of Glasgow School of Art, a generous gesture to the next generation.) Overall, the exhibition spoke of craftsmanship, formalism and beauty.
