The relevance of convex analysis for the study of monotonicity
We introduce new representations for maximal monotone operators. We relate them to previous representations given by Krauss, Fitzpatrick, Martı́nez-Legaz and Théra. We show their usefulness for the study of compositions and sums of maximal monotone operators.
