[...]music in Finland has had a rich historical tradition, ranging widely across folk and indigenous to classical and contemporary, the last involving an equal array from modern folk to jazz to rock and beyond. While there, he befriended Johan Runeberg, one of Finland's greatest literary figures, and by 1792 he had moved to Stockholm as a wind band soloist. In the 1840s virtually all cities and towns in Finland had musical ensembles, ranging from small orchestras to military bands, and the musicians all became involved in the nationalist movements of the time.
