Summary: | Farewell to Masterpiece, for now anyway, and to pub tradition TWO pieces of news emerged last week that have relevance to the art market, the one direct and the other peripheral. The organisers included dealers and, crucially, Stabilo, the stand-building company that made its reputation with designing TEFAF Maastricht, which guaranteed a high-gloss swagger to the new event, although the inclusion of luxury cars, pleasure boats, fashionlabel handbags and a great deal ofjewellery could bring the experience closer to a Dubai shopping mall than to Grosvenor House. Pick of the week A year ago (Art market, February 16, 2022), I wrote about Lignereux, which was founded shortly before the French Revolution to produce luxurious objets d'art and was, effectively, the first interior decorator. |
