Description
Summary:A method is presented for estimating the effect of transverse runout in rotating flexible disks. The linear governing equation of transverse deflection for a rotating disk of transverse runout is formulated by an energy method. By assuming the initial transverse runout in a form of some terms, which have different nodal diameter numbers, in orthonormal expansion, the deflection is derived analytically in an uncoupled form based on Galerkin’s method. Illustrative examples are presented to show the centrifugal flattening process of transverse runout. The effects of the boundary condition models are demonstrated. New conclusion about the residual curl near the rim is obtained. Though the assumption about the initial transverse runout does not include all the cases, the research leads to a clear and easy-to-use solution for practical applications.
