Description
Summary:A two-phase nickel-cobalt superalloy deformed in tension at room temperature has been studied by high resolution electron microscopy (HREM). The alloy contains plate shaped precipitates which are sheared by the motion of dislocations during deformation. The matrix and precipitates have different crystallographic structures; the deformation is not homogeneous. Local deformations and rotations which appear near the shear plane are analysed, and a microscopic description of the precipitate shearing mechanism is proposed.
