Summary: | To address very recent progress in psoriasis, this current special issue, composed of five reviews, has been planned. The issue begins with the latest investigation of pathophysiology of psoriasis by Dr Yamanaka in relation to the action mechanisms of novel drugs in the inflammatory psoriatic pathways, also discussing the differences and similarities between psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Next, Dr Yamazaki reviews the updates on comorbidities of psoriasis, addressing the necessity of vascular lesion testing for early detection and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Third, Dr Umezawa reviews the advances in PsA, with a focus on early detection and treatment, referring to recently prepared Japanese guidelines for PsA 2019 in the Japanese Journal of Dermatology. Fourth, Dr Yamamoto discusses the similarity and difference between PPP and pustular psoriasis, addressing the clinicopathological features and therapeutic approaches for both diseases. Finally, Dr Honma summarizes recent progress in molecular-targeted therapies, not only biologics but also small-molecule oral inhibitors, also including new promising drugs under development. |
