Description
Summary:Application of the Purdue University 3D mesoscale model to the circulation around Taiwan and the surrounding area has yielded numerical results for an inviscid atmosphere in which a cyclonic vortex forms in the southeast, and a somewhat weaker anticyclonic vortex forms in Taiwan's northeast under a westerly or southwesterly wind. The Froude number is found to be an important parameter in the estimation of the central mountain range's blocking effect; the flow pattern is also affected by the shape of those mountains, the surrounding topography, and other meteorological parameters.
