Description
Summary:The world's eight leading industrialized countries will discuss the issue of condoning the debt owed by developing countries to the International Monetary Fund and other private banks by 2000 at their annual meeting in Cologne, Germany, in June 1999. The initiative was started by a group calling itself Jubilee 2000 who were inspired by the Bible's Book of Leviticus Chapter 25:10, which says that borrowers should be given their property back after 50 years so they can start anew. The idea has even received the support of Pope John Paul II.
