Summary: | Scandinavians in the State House: How Nordic Immigrants Shaped Minnesota what Politics By Klas Bergman Minnesota Historical Society Press, St. Paul, Minnesota, 2017 310 pages, softcover, $19.95 ISBN: 978-1-68134-030-2 Starting in the 1850s, thousands of Nordic immigrants settled in Minnesota, many of whom entered the public arena, both locally and nationally, some in the U.S. Congress and some even ascending to the vice presidency. The author is a native Swedish journalist and writer who spent nearly 20 years as a reporter and correspondent for the leading Swedish daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter, including six years as its chief U.S. correspondent in Washington, D.C. In the book he explores who these immigrant politicians were and what drove them to their destinies. |
