Summary:The global outbreak of Mycobacterium chimaera infections associated with heater-cooler devices (HCDs) presents several important, unique challenges for the infection prevention community. The primary focus of this article is to assist hospitals in establishing a rapid response for identification, notification, and evaluation of exposed patients, and management of HCDs with regard to placement and containment, environmental culturing, and disinfection.
