Description
Summary:The results of the 35th cruise of the R/V Akademik Ioffe contribute to the solution of the problem regarding distinguishing contourite and turbidite seismofacies. The more widespread development of turbidites in Sohm and Demerara abyssal plains, in comparison to basins of South Atlantic, is demonstrated. This is caused, first of all, by the presence of vast deep water turbidite fans (Saint Lawrence and Amazon rivers), which have no analogs in the continental margins of Brazil and Uruguay. In addition, specific seismofacies of the MAR are revealed.
