Summary: | The concept of the ‘measurement fitness of a sample for materials tests’ is introduced. Evaluations of the measurement fitness of the six most common samples for fatigue crack resistance tests are given. It is shown that other conditions remaining the same a sample should be chosen taking account of its measurement fitness in terms of the range of the admissible change in length of a fatigue crack or the range of variation of the stress intensity factor. |
