Description
Summary:The ichnotaxon Archaeonassa is described from the lower part of the Banded Siltstone Member of the Sankholi Formation (Tal Group) exposed at Ganog locality, Nigali Dhar syncline (Sirmur district), Himachal Pradesh. This is the first record of this ichnotaxon from the Cambrian successions of the Indian Himalaya. The trail Archaeonassa is attributed to the locomotion of mollusks-like animal close to the sediment-water interface. Occurrence of this ichnogenus with other known traces from the Banded Siltstone Member (Sankholi Formation) indicates a shallow marine environment for the deposition. The ichnogenus Archaeonassa in Banded Siltstone Member (Sankholi Formation) indicate the extant of molluscan animals in the early Cambrian time.
