Description
Summary:Overweight and obesity are increasingly prevalent public health concerns and are associated with increased risk of mortality and morbidity in both children and adults (Lobstein and Frelut, 2003: Obesity Reviews, 4, 195-200). This may be doubly important in children as the obese child is more likely to become an obese adult (Guo and Chumlea, 1999: American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 70: 145S-148S). As a result it has been recommended that secular trends in obesity are monitored using international cut-off points recommended for children and adolescents (Lobstein and Frelut, 2003). Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of overweight and obesity in British children from different ethnic groups.
