Summary: | The structural-functional characteristics of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and genu of the corpus callosum were studied, along with their interaction with electrophysiological markers of selective attention processes in 18 mentally healthy subjects and 22 patients with juvenile schizophrenia at the remission onset stage and in remission. No statistically significant intergroup differences were found in terms of N-acetylaspartate and choline-containing substance levels (assayed by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy), while fractional anisotropy (measured by diffusion-tensor magnetic resonance tomography) in the genu of the corpus callosum was lower in the patients group. The absence of any statistically significant correlations between neuroimaging characteristics and assessments of the severity of psychopathological disorders, along with occasional correlational interactions with P300 parameters, suggest weak involvement of the study structures in processes determining cognitive impairments in patients with juvenile schizophrenia. |
