Summary: | Using a postmodern feminist lens and framing theory, this article compares and contrasts press coverage of Katie Couric and Diane Sawyer through textual analysis to show how each woman was cast differently during their initial four months of their tenures as network news anchors, thereby perhaps experiencing different level of success. This comparison is important as women have achieved greater visibility within network news in the last two decades and with this increase, gender alone can no longer be the focus of power hierarchies in network news environments, particularly those in front of the camera because of the entanglements with economic considerations. |
