Summary:•Hydrogen plasma arc melting (HPAM) was used for refining of Ti binary alloy scraps.•HPAM enables refining while suppressing the weigh loss of alloy components.•Weight losses of Ti binary alloy scraps were less than 1% after HPAM for 20min.•Removal degrees of metallic impurities for Ti–Ni and Ti–Mo alloys were over 80%. In the present study, we produced button ingots using hydrogen plasma arc melting (HPAM), which enabled refining while suppressing the loss of alloy components as much as possible, in order to recycle Ti–Ni, Ti–Mo, and Ti–Al alloy scraps.
