Summary: | Pentachloronitrobenzene (PCNB) is a fungicide approved for use on ornamental plants and some food crops in Canada. Some of the PCNB is probably lost to the atmosphere via volatilization. Samples of air were collected from three sites in Canada in 1994, and analyzed for PCNB content. No PCNB was detected in the ambient air at Yellowknife during seven sampling sessions. Positive results were obtained during two of five sampling sessions at Waskesiu. Ten of eleven samples from Regina were positive for PCNB. Although the compound is not applied to the crops grown in the Waskesiu and Regina areas, the highest quantities were found in May at these sites, when agricultural activity was high. |
