Summary:Conversely, a mesenteroaxial volvulus occurs in 29 per cent of cases and is described as rotation of the stomach perpendicular to the luminal (long) axis.2 Early recognition of the signs of gastric volvulus is paramount secondary to the associated high mortality rate of 30 to 50 per cent.2 A 51-year-old woman presented with nausea, abdominal distention, and abdominal pain for two days. The patient's pertinent medical history included hypothyroidism, schizoaffective disorder, diabetes mellitus, diabetic neuropathy, chronic constipation, gastroparesis, conversion disorder, and a total abdominal hysterectomy.
