Description
Summary:Investigation showed that decomposition of 2,6-diethylnitrosobenzene (1) was very rapid in solution or during gas chromatography (GC) procedures. This thermal instability as well as the resulting formation of an equilibrating mixture of monometric and dimetric forms in solution complicated the analytical data which appears to have been misinterpreted in previous metabolic studies. Reference standards were synthesized and the chromatographic and spectral properties were used to identify the thermal decomposition products of 1. N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)hydroxilamine and 3-methyl-7-ethylanthranil were the major compounds identified.
