Description
Summary:The usefulness of a toxicity classification system based on a battery of microbiotests for routine monitoring of rivers including surface-water, sediment and soil from flood was assessed. Toxicity assessment of surface-water samples was performed using a test battery consisting of 8 species. Toxicity assessment of all the sediment and soil from floodplain samples was performed using direct contact tests consisting of 6 species. The quality of surface-water based on the battery of microbiotests was better than mandatory classification of the rivers pollution based on the physical and chemical analysis. It was also observed that the samples of sediment and soil from the floodplain were more toxic than the surface-water samples. Diversified toxic responses indicated and confirmed a need of microbiotest battery application consisting of acute and chronic tests with the organisms representing different trophic levels.
