Summary: | A review of an installation at the Mura Clay Gallery in Sydney in 2005, by Irene Schroder. The work is about the Eureka Stockade uprising, an historical event in which 13 miners were imprisoned and tried for treason in Victoria, Australia. The major component of the installation is a set of portraits in terracotta and black of the 13 "diggers", mounted on weathered fence poles and scavenged timber. There are also ceramic busts of the other figures involved in the event. The artist also discusses her technique. |
